ALTERNATIVA ÅTGÄRDER FÖR MINSKAT INLÄCKAGE AV GRUNDVATTEN I AVLOPPSSYSTEM – PROGNOSTISERING AV EFFEKTER MED STÖD AV INTEGRERAD MODELLERING / Alternative Schemes for Reduction of Groundwater Inflow/Infiltration to Sewer Systems – Prediction of Effects with the Aid of Integrated Sewer/Aquifer Modelling
Sewer systems influence the local urban hydrology rhrough infiltration ofgroundwarer. Experiences indicate a limited use of traditional countermeasures for limiting the inflow/infiltration. Implementing alternative schemes introduces on the other hand many new technical issues. The answers to these demand a thorough geohydrological understanding of the catchment. The ability to describe this complex interaction and to forecast the effect of the alternative schemes is strengthened with hydrological modelling. Few concepts of modelling are capable o( describing the interaction between the hydraulics in the .sewer system and the surrounding geohydrological processes, today’s most advanced tool is found in MIKE SHE with applications in traditional surface and groundwater issues. In a research project, with support from the Swedish Water and Waste Water Works Association, MIKE SHE was introduced into an urban environment followed by implementation and follow-up with good results. Further the modelling technique and tool has been refined resulting in a dynamic coupling between MIKE SHE and MOUSE. This coupling has been applied in two additional catchments in Sweden.
