AN EVALUATION OF COST EFFICIENCYAND SUSTAINABILITY OF DIFFERENT WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESSES
In order to be able to determine wheiher or not a wastewarer treatment method is the best one in a given case, it would be beneficial if the treatment method could be evaluated both with respect to cost efficiency (cost in relation to receiving water improvemenr) as well as sustainability (consumption ofraw materials and energy). Such evaluation methods are, however, not fully developed and seldom used. I this paper an attempt is made to evaluare different commonly used treatment methods. The cost efficieny is evaluated by relating the cost to the total reduction of oxygen consumption (direct and indirect) in the receiving water caused by the treatment method. The sustainability is evaluated by relaring the energy consumption of the treatment method to the same reduction in receiving water oxygen consumption. “Complete abstract not presented.”
