Effekter orsakade av extrema vattenstånd och vågor i Lundåkrabukten – situationen idag och i ett framtida scenario / Impact of extreme sea levels and waves in the bay of Lundåkra – present situation and future scenarios
We are living in a time where we are being frequently reminded of the threat of a drastic climate change. Understanding the complexity of the climate remains a major challenge when trying to predict the consequences of this change. Nevertheless, there are today enough results from numerous studies to create a reasonable idea of possible future climate scenarios. The research is driven by an increasing demand on future predictions by policymakers. Around the coast of Sweden, municipalities have started the preparatory work to investigate the possible local impacts from an accelerated climate change and its consequences. Landskrona city, located at the western coast of Skåne, is one of Sweden’s coastal communities that have initiated the work of planning for how to manage a future elevated sea level. In this study, carried out as a Master thesis at Lund University, the impact of a future sea level rise has been estimated with focus on the bay of Lundåkra, south of Landskrona. The results show that a sea level rise represents a major threat to the region and its protected nature values.
