ETT LÅNGDRAGET LEDNINGSBYGGANDE / A Never-ceasing Pipe Construction
The first water pipe from Kallebäck completed in 1787 consisted of bored up timber of aspen and pine. It had served for 104 years when it in 1891 was replaced by a new cast iron pipe. Cast iron have since then been the dominating material of the pipes. Nowadays pipes with inside corrosion isolation of cement mortar and outside covered with thermo plastic are used. During the 1940’s concrete pipes were used, during the 1950’s the plastic pipes, and in the beginning of the 1960’s steel pipes for bigger dimensions. In 1866 Gothenburg’s first plan for waste water was approved of. This plan was used until the 1890’s and Gothenburg was then the first city in Sweden which introduced an arranged system for waste water. In the beginning stoneware pipes, imported from England, were used. From 1887 concrete pipes were manufactured in Gothenburg. That has been the dominating material of the pipes since then. During the end of the 1950’s the plastic pipes were used, but only to a minor extent. “Complete abstract not presented.”
