FEM-ANALYS AV STRÖMNINGSFÖRHÅLLANDENA I EN DAGVATTENDAMM / FEM-analysis of the hydraulic conditions in a stormwater detention pond
In 1996 Goteborg Water and Sewage Works built a stormwater detention pond, with a catchment area consisting of a city highway and a domestic area. Models of the pond in two and three dimensions were made with a finite element program, FIDAP. The hydraulic conditions have been simulated for different flow intensities. Particle removal, as well as the impact of changes in the pond geometry have been simulated with FIDAP. To verify the simulations of flow patterns, field measurements were made by drogue tracking. To verify the simulation of particle removal, particle counting was made during one storm event. The simulation shows that FIDAP is a useful tool for simulating hydraulic conditions in stormwater detention ponds. It has also been shown that the design of this stormwater detention pond is not optimal, since some parts of the pond became inactive
