INVERKAN AV SYRE- OCH SLAMHALTEN PÅ NITRIFIKATIONSHASTIGHETEN / Influence of the Oxygen and Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids Concentration on the Nitrification Rate
Experiments were carried out at Bromma wastewater treatment plant with nitrification of reject water using SBR technics (Sequencing Batch Reactor). The studies were performed mainly in a pilot plant scale, but some complementary tests were done in a laboratory scale. The purpose was to give a basis for estimation of an appropriate oxygen concentration and mixed liquor suspended solids concentration for the nitrification process. Based on the Monod formula for bacterial growth, the maximum nitrification rate and the half saturation coefficient were determined. The coefficients were determined by use of three alternative plots according to Lineweaver-Burk, Hanes and Woolf, respectively. The value of the half saturation coefficient for ammonium oxidation in the nitrification process was considerably higher for the pilot plant experiments (about 2 mg O2/l) compared with the laboratory tests (about 1 mg O2/l). The nitrification rate was decreasing with an increasing concentration of suspended solids. “Complete abstract not presented.”
