KALKNINGSPLANERING I VATTENDRAGSSYSTEM MED PULS-MODELLEN / Planning of Liming Activities in Rivers with the PULSE-model
A hydrochemical model (PULSE) has been used to simulate liming activities in Ljustorpsån, a tributary to river Indalsälven in central Sweden. The PULSE-model is a conceptual runoff model with possibilities to simulate some chemical variables, such as alkalinity and pH. The PULSE-model treats alkalinity as a function of the calculated groundwater level in the model. No explicit biological or chemical reactions are taken into consideration. The results show that it is possible to simulate alkalinity and pH in a watersystem that has already been limed. With the model it is also possible to test further liming activities, aiming at a pH of >6.2 throughout the year. A total of 16 liming strategies were tested in Ljustorpsån. In this case, alternatives using continuous in-stream dosage of lime turned out as the best complement to existing liming activities. “Complete abstract not presented.”
