KVÄVEREDUKTION VID NITRIFIERING AV REJEKTVATTEN MED SBR-TEKNIK / Nitrogen Reactions during Nitrification of Reject Water with SBR Technics
Experiments with nitrification of reject water by use of SBR technics at Bromma sewage treatment plant have shown that it is possible to obtain a complete nitrification at high reaction rates. The oxygen concenration was the main operational parameter that mfluenced the nitrification rate. Moreover the initialammonium concentration had a certain influence. The experiments showed that the oxidation rate of ammonium nitrogen to nitrite was higher than the oxidation rate of nitrite nltrogen to nitrate. By this reason nitrite was accumulated. The maximum nitrite concentration was dependent on the initial ammonium concentration and the oxygen concentration. When all ammonium had been oxidised all nitrite was oxidised to nitrate. Different sidereactions were neglectable such as the formation of dlnitrogen oxide (N30) and nitrosamines.
