MAPPING OF GROUNDWATER DISCHARGE AREAS / Kartering av utströmningsområden
Detailed knowledge of groundwater discharge areas is needed, among others, in those cases where polluted groundwater may threaten surface water quality. We present a method of studying the discharge areas by sampling shallow groundwater with mini-piezometers and measuring water conductivity and/or hydraulic head. Two case studies from the rivers of Björkaån near Sjöbo and Braån near Teckomatorp (South Sweden) are presented. The aim of these studies was to prove the existence of the discharge and to obtain unaltered samples of the discharged groundwater.
