ORGANISKT MATERIAL I VATTEN. – EN JÄMFÖRELSE AV RESULTAT FRÅN OLIKA ANALYSMETODER, Organic Substances in Natural Water. A Comparison of Results from Different Analytical Methods
For the determination of total organic substances in water three, principally different methods are available. These are chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD). Theoretical and empirical relationships between results obtained with these methods are discussed based on literature and own results. Variations in the relationships are mainly due to variations in types of water quality. It is therefore proposed that comparisons of results from different methods should be based on actual measurements on the type of water. Some relations which should be used with caution are given as a guide line. Permanganate number=3.95 (stoichiometric relation) COD Cr = 4 COD Mn range 3-5 CODCr = 3.5C CODMn = l.l C range 0.95-1.3
