SAMBANDET MELLAN ALUMINIUMHALT OCH SURHETSGRAD I NÅGRA SKOGSBÄCKAR / Relationship between Aluminium Concentration and Acidity in Some Forest Brooks
The relationship between total aluminium concentration and acidity was studied in water from 14 forest brooks. From the individual brook between 10 and 26 water samples were taken distributed over different parts of one to four consecutive years. All samples were taken during the period 1982-1986. For the whole material pH varied between 4.1 and 7.4. The aluminium concentration varied between 37 and 1700 ìg l-1. As expected there was a negative relationship between aluminium concentration and pH. However, for brooks having an average pH<5.4 there was a positive correlation between the two variables. The positive correlation was statistically significant for the two most acid brooks. These two brooks had at the same time the highest concentrations of sulphate.
