SEDIMENT AND NUTRIENT LOSSES BY WATER EROSION FROM ARABLE LAND IN SOUTH SWEDEN A PROBLEM WITH NONPOINT POLLUTION?
In this article we would like to emphasize the importance of water erosion as a process related to sediment and nutrient losses. Many changes of the cultural landscape, which have taken place during the 20th century, have not only led to an increase in productivity but have also contributed to an increase in the risk of soil erosion. Two different surveys have been carried out in the south of Sweden during two winter seasons (Oct-April) 1986/87 and 1987/88 to quantify the amount of sediment and nutrient losses by water erosion and elucidate the different physical factors affecting the erosion: – Monitoring of the erosion processes in six experimental fields. – Investigation of the amount and localization of rill erosion m three different agricultural districts. Each area is about 30 km2. “Complete abstract not presented.”
