THAILANDS UTVECKLING – ETT HOT MOT VATTEN OCH MILJÖ / The Development Process in Thailand – A Threat to Water and the Environment
The uncontrolled developmenr ihar has taken place in Thailand during the last decade has caused considerable damage to the environment and ro freshwater resources. The governance is suffering from a severe technological fix and has not fully internalised the imporcance of an adequate institutional framework for a sustainable magement of natural resources. There is also a great need for capacity building in technology management. The Asian Institute of Technology has, historcally, had a great impact on the capacity building within the area of water resources development. Now, however, the need is in the area of environmental and water resources management. Thus, some international donors have tried ro encourage AIT ro focus on environmentally sound technology management. However, forces within the institute have managed to resist anything more than a cosmetic change of the institute.
