URBANHYDROLOGI I ETT EKOLOGISKT PERSPEKTIV / Urban Hydrology in Ecological Perspectives
A city is an alien element in natural ecological systems. All anthropogenic systems become monocultures with open material and energy systems. Overexploitation of natural resources (raw materials, water), or enrichment of residuals (pollutions) are the consequences. Today it is clear that urban areas must be kept in some kind of equilibrium which is acceptable for both ecosystems and human beings. Recently applied policies of local disposal of water and wastes have contributed to some improvement of the environment. However, ecological degradation is continuing on areas situated further away from pollution sources. Problems have only been moved away from cities to previously untouched areas. In order to cope with this problem, it is time to apply more global approach. It is impossible to cope with urban water problems without integration of knowledge from several disciplines such as rural hydrology, ecology, biology, chemistry and many others. “Complete abstract not presented.”
